Top 7 Blogging Mistakes
by Karen Sielski
Blogging is one of my most favorite online marketing activities, and has had a tremendous impact on my online success. It a great way for me to share the vast information I've learned about online marketing, costing me thousands and thousands of dollars.
Blogging is not hard, but there are some basic mistakes that are easy to make.
Avoiding these 7 blogging mistakes will improve your online results:
Mistake #1: Not making your articles attractive to the eye. Make sure you have a good color scheme, your font is readable, and your blog has a nice clean layout.
Mistake #2: Making your content difficult to read by using long words, long sentences, and long paragraphs. Keep your sentences and paragraphs short. Also, use words and language that your target visitor will understand.
It is important to keep your paragraphs to 2-3 sentences long. This may result in paragraph breaks at non traditional locations. It's ok, your goal is to make your blog easy for your readers to read. Long blocks of text are not easy to read online, so keep things short.
Mistake #3: Not using a conversational style to your writing. When you start writing, picture your ideal prospect, and then pretend you are having a one-on-one conversation with that person over coffee. Make your text come to life and expose your personality. Give your opinions when appropriate.
Mistake #4: Not using a spell checker before publishing your article. If you want to position yourself as an expert, you need to avoid careless mistakes that are easy to avoid.
Mistake #5: Focusing your writing to get natural search engine traffic, not writing to your human visitors. It's great to use keywords to get natural traffic from the search engines, but only if your article still reads well to your visitors. After all, the search engines don't buy anything from you, but your human visitors do! Website traffic won't do you any good if your readers are turned off my your writing.
Mistake #6: Writing about a topic just to make money, not because you have an interest in the topic. The best approach is to write about topics you are genuinely passionate about. Your passion will definately come across in your writing and your readers will pick up on it.
Mistake #7: Not engaging your readers. Try not to make your blog a one-way dialog with your readers. Try to get your readers involved in discussions. Directly ask them to leave their thoughts and opinions in the comments area. Get them to interact and share their knowledge.
That's my quick list of 7 common blogging mistakes. Avoid these mistakes and create a blog that rocks!
